New Year, New Me – heres a phrase you would have no doubtably heard your friends say or seen in countless social media posts over the past couple of weeks – Its the same every year.

The start of a New year is a great time to reflect on the previous year and make resolutions or promises to ourselves for the year ahead. “This year I am going to loose weight, exercise more, eat less chocolate, drink less alcohol” etc etc. It’s an easy time to feel optimistic. Its a new year. It’s a new decade even! Time for a new start or “a new me”!

The problem with this way of thinking is that its also easy to fall into the trap of assuming that things are going to be different purely because its a fresh start. The reality is that most people that set new years resolutions break them by the end of January simply because they don’t change their thinking or their behaviour.

Don’t fall into the trap

As anyone who has successfully set goals and achieved them will tell you; if things are going to change, then you have to change what you are doing.

Another phrase you may have heard a friend or partner say or maybe you’ve even said yourself when experiencing persistent or longterm aches and pain is “I should probably get this seen to”. Whilst this is said with the best intentions of getting that niggle or injury seen to, that isn’t always the case and could be causing you more harm.

The longer you live with such issues, just putting up with or forgetting to get those aches and pains seen to, the greater risk you are of further issues. Reduced strength and movement through ingrained compensations and dysfunctions can significantly affect your quality of life (sometimes without you realising) and make the the road to better health and movement a much longer journey.

With the start of the new year and peoples attention starting to switch to their health and wellness; What better time to start thinking about yours and change what you are doing?

Seeking treatment at the right time can help prevent the risk of poor movement and postural habits setting in and even revert those that have already occurred.

Many of the people we see here in the clinic have unnecessarily suffered through aches and pains and missed out on activities; sometimes for months if not years, that could’ve easily been ‘nipped in the bud’ with a few appointments.
